The rate of installation of family size biogas plants in Nepal has shown unprecedented growth in the past. More people are getting involved in biogas as users, technicians, extension workers, researchers, trainers, supervisors and investors. As a result, the need for suitable training programmes along with the development of a high quality training manual has become a matter of immense importance for the sustainable growth of the biogas sector in Nepal. One of the main components of the FAO funded Support for the Development of National Biogas Programme Project has been the development of an appropriate training curriculum and materials with the objectives: (i) to create awareness on the biogas programme; and (ii) to provide background for the promotion and facilitation of biogas extension activities (202 pages). |

has to be improved. The main parameters that may require removal in an upgrading systems are H2S, water, CO2 and halogenated compounds: • Desulphurisation to prevent corrosion and avoid toxic H2S concentrations. • Removal of water because of potential accumulation of condensate in the gas line and the formation of a corrosive acidic solution. • Removal of CO2 will be required if the biogas needs to be upgraded to natural gas standards or vehicle fuel use. • Landfill gas often contains significant amounts of halogenated compounds which need to be removed prior to use. |

This report aims to highlight the
various applications and contexts in which biomass gasification
may be successfully utilized at a large scale. It also discusses
the various dimensions that need to be considered in scaling
up deployment in any of these categories, and suggests possible
approaches that might be particularly promising. The analysis
in this report builds on the experience and lessons from the
substantial efforts in India on biomass gasifier development
and dissemination over the last two decades. It also explicitly
takes a systems perspective in analyzing the Indian case as well
as possible ways forward in order to mainstream gasifier use
in developing countries (126 pages).
